Lorne Wright

Lorne William Wright, 87, passed away peacefully at Bluewater Health in Sarnia on June 19, 2018. Lorne was born in Sombra Township and lived at his beloved farm on Smith Line for nearly 60 years. A farmer, Lorne raised beef cattle and also worked for the Ministry of Transportation for 32 years. At his job he was recognized for safe driving and was known for his exceptional work ethic. Lorne was a true music lover, particularly of old-tyme fiddle songs. His all-time favourite performer was Canadian fiddle champion Scott Woods and he went to see him perform locally many times. He also enjoyed reading and discussing current events. He had a reverence for nature and was a true animal lover and he spent countless hours observing nature from his easy chair. Lorne was a faithful Christian. A private man, he cultivated his relationship with the Lord in his easy chair at home. At each meal, he prayed this simple prayer to his Heavenly Father Jesus, who he has gone home to be with for eternity, “Jesus. Thank you for the food and this day. And thank you for the beautiful sunshine.” Lorne is survived by daughter Pam Wright, grandson Brent Aarssen of Toronto, granddaughter Brittany Wright and her husband Nicholas Jacob, along with their children Holden Lorne Wright Jacob and Grace Dahlia Wright Jacob of Vernon B.C. and Son David Wright & grandson Liam Wright. He was a loving father and cherished grandfather. A devoted “grampy” to his grandchildren, he always did his best to help them in any way he could. His great-grandchildren brought him so much joy. Lorne’s legacy is the way he loved and cared for his family. They were the centre of his world and his reason for living. He taught us how to love, how to care for one another, and to always show up for each other. A special thank you goes out to the many personal support workers from Care Partners who helped Lorne live in his home in his last years. That was his greatest wish fulfilled. Special mention goes to Bonnie Leveille, who went above and beyond the call of duty in her work with Lorne. Predeceased by Parents Robert Samuel Wright and Harriet Laverne Hiller. Brother of Helen (Glen) Lane, Wallaceburg; Wilda (Roy) Miller, South Carolina, Marguerite (Jim) Smith, Tillsonburg and Dora (Archie) Rankin, Mooretown and the late Isabelle (Walter) Peters. Lorne was a simple man who taught others the value of kindness, which will live on through his family. The family will receive relatives and friends at the HAYCOCK-CAVANAGH FUNERAL HOME, 409 Nelson Street in Wallaceburg from noon – 1:30 on Friday, June 22 with the funeral to follow at 1:30.
