Alan Thornton

November 19, 2014

Alan Ayres Thornton – a lifelong resident of Wallaceburg, passed away suddenly at his home on Wednesday, November 19, 2014. Born 66 years ago, he was the beloved son of Barbara (Ayres) Thornton and the late Spencer Thornton. Dear husband of Annelia (Neefs) Thornton and most loving father of Lindsay Thornton (Mark Chortos) and Michael Thornton (Natalie Winsborough); loving brother of Kim and Jack Thomaes and Leigh and Ellen Thornton, all of Port Lambton; ‘adopted’ brother of Ralph Murphy of Nashville; son-in-law of Jack and the late Wilhelmina Neefs. He had many nieces and nephews. He was employed for many years at Libbey Glass. Al’s passions included music and computers, and he was extremely interested in their technologies. He played lead, rhythm and bass guitar at various times and was enjoying the new organ. In younger days he made demos with his ‘board’ for many other musicians. Al was an enthusiastic gamer on computer, and endeared himself to the rest of the family with his amazing abilities to keep all the family computers running properly. He was a devoted movie fan, especially of Star Trek and its ensuing science fiction movies, a passion he shared with his dad and his children. The family will receive relatives and friends at the HAYCOCK-CAVANAGH FUNERAL HOME, 409 Nelson Street in Wallaceburg from 2-4 & 7-9 PM on Monday. The funeral will be celebrated at the funeral home on Tuesday, November 25 at 11 AM. Interment of cremated remains in Riverview Cemetery at a later date.
