Owen Watson

With heavy hearts we announce that Owen Grant Watson passed away on Friday, January 5, 2024 at the age of 77. He will be forever loved and remembered by his cherished wife of 56 years; Mary Ann (Fournie) and by his loving daughters Kimberly (Randy) Pugh and Jody (Greg) Shaw. Owen’s grandchildren were the light of his life, he will be greatly missed by Lauren, Troy, Braiden and Kylie. Son of the late Grant and Ethel Watson and dear brother of Karen (David) DeRooy, Roger (Darcy) Watson and the late Ron and Jean Watson and Laura and Pete Thomaes. Brother-in-law of Ralph (Heather) and the Late Linda Attwater. He will be fondly missed by his many nieces, nephews Cathy, Janice, Ron, and the Late Carol, Rob, David, Jennifer, Adam, Ashleigh, Nick, Joseph, Christena, Tim, and extended family and close friends. Owen grew up farming in Sombra. Worked 32 years at the Glass Factory in Wallaceburg. When the Factory closed he started his own machine shop that was his pride and joy. He loved his community and volunteered 30 years to Wilkesport Fire Dept including 13 years as Chief, and Volunteering at Wilkesport Community Center. He was the neighbour that loved to help anyone whether it be to wire their house, snow plow the laneways of anyone in a five mile radius. He had every tool imaginable if not two and was always willing to help anyone any time and any day. Many returned the favour as he took on the challenge of building his own house, where he cherished living back on the St. Clair river. His favourite hobbies were working. Whether farming, machining, woodworking, welding, electrical and loved best the challenges brought to him to invent a solution to fix for tractors or machinery of any kind. Prided himself on precision and solid builds. His only greater joys were his family, pets, and baseball especially his New York Yankees. His family would like to give a special thank you to all the dedicated team members at Bluewater Health Oncology and Palliative Care Units especially Dr. Lilly, Dr. LeBere, Dr. Crombeen, and Dr. Martin (Urology). Owen was able to manage a four year battle of cancer with Strength and Dignity to the very end, and stayed at home until Jan. 1/24 Family and Friends are invited for visitation at the Haycock-Cavanagh Funeral Home, 409 Nelson Street in Wallaceburg(519-627-3231), on Tuesday, January 9, 2024 from 2-4 and 6-8pm. A firefighter walk through will take place at 6pm Tuesday evening. Owen’s funeral will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at 11am with burial at Riverside Cemetery in Sombra.
