Bernard Burm

Bernard George Burm, a lifetime resident of Wallaceburg/Chatham Township passed away peacefully on April 15, 2022, at Chatham-Kent Health Alliance. Born in July of 1932, he was in his 90th year. Beloved husband of 49+ years to Mary (Soudant) Burm. Beloved son of the late Rudolph Burm and Bertha (VanDamme) Burm. Brother of deceased sisters Catherine VanDommelon and Ann Burm, and brother-in-law to the late Gordon VanDommelon. Bernard is survived by his children, Brian (Sherri) Burm, Bev (Jeff) Beselaere, Kim (Duane) Wreaks. Proud Grampie to 6 grandchildren, Nathan Beselaere, Brandan Beselaere, Joshua Burm, Alexa Burm, Samantha Wreaks and Liam Wreaks. Bernard also enjoyed his four great grandchildren, Mackenzie Beselaere, Cameron Beselaere, Benjamin Beselaere and Riley Burm. Bernard is sadly missed by his surviving sisters Betty (Maurice) Seys, Lorraine (Richard) Van Damme and Margaret (Henry) Renders. Brother-in-law to Mary’s siblings, Henny (George) Franssen (deceased), Nellie (Joe) Janosek(deceased), Nettie DeMaat(surviving), Paul (Eda) Soudant (surviving), MaryLou (Richard) Depelsmaeker (surviving), Leo Soudant (deceased), Anna Soudant(surviving), John Demaat (deceased). Bernard was a farmer through and through. He always loved the outdoors and the beauty of nature. He had a real soft spot for animals as well, even as much of a nuisance as the raccoons in the barn could be, he liked them and thought they had cute faces. He even brought 3 or 4 home in a box one time to show the grandkids. He fed the bunnies and the birds and anything else that would come around. He loved the blue water along the St. Clair Parkway; took that drive often to see the swans, geese and ducks. Everyone who knew our dad was aware of his wealth of information on many topics - Mr. book of knowledge! Bernard was a 4th Degree Knight with the Wallaceburg Branch of the Knights of Columbus. Bernard’s 3 children would like to greatly thank Chatham-Kent VON. This organization was absolutely wonderful to our dad. They worked with him on an ongoing basis over the last few years. Hats off to all those who cared for him, but a special mention goes out to Sonny and to Virginia. God bless you all and Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We would like to express our gratitude and heartfelt thank you for the kindness, care and love shown to our dad by all the Staff and Administration at the Oaks Retirement Residence in Wallaceburg. Our dad really enjoyed his 3+ years living there. As well, we wish to acknowledge the entire Health Team at CKHA-Chatham Campus, for the wonderful care and attention given to our Dad. Thank you very much. Lastly, thank you to Fr. Gerard Bedard for the visits to our Dad over the last 3 years and for coming to anoint him and give him the final sacraments. God bless you Father. The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at Holy Family Church on Wednesday, April 20 at 11 AM. Interment to follow at Riverview Cemetery.
