Arlie Dougherty

Arlie Dougherty, a resident of Wallaceburg, slipped away quietly in her sleep at Fairfield Park on Monday, September 5, 2011. Born in London, Ontario, Arlie was born on January 14, the youngest of 9 children, to the late Letty and Amos Weston. Predeceased by her beloved husband Jack in October of 2003. Arlie opened her woman’s clothing store Arlee’s Shoppe Ltd. in Wallaceburg in September of 1969 and served the community for over 25 years. Arlie was well known for her love of life, her beautiful smile and the wonderful service that she gave to each and everyone of her customers. Arlie often went to Toronto to buy for the store with a list of people who wanted her to buy them something special. Many a time she would open the store in the off hours to assist a bereaved family member. Arlie coordinated fashion shows for the I.O.D.E., United Church, Brigden Fair Ladies and many others. Arlie founded the Kinette Club of Wallaceburg and became it’s Charter President. She was a former Pythian Sister, a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Chairperson of Grand Old Days and a member of the B.I.A.. She attended the Baptist Church in London and Wallaceburg. She was an outgoing, loving people-person who will be greatly missed by family and friends. Arlie is survived by her loving daughter Valerie and her son-in-law Mike Griffith of Wallaceburg, granddaughter Kellie and her husband Rob Watson of Wallaceburg, grandson Jeff & his wife Carolyn of Oakville, great grandchildren Adam Watson and his fiancé Jocelyn Podolinsky of Chatham, Julie Watson and her fiancé Kevin Downey of London and Jaclyn Watson of Windsor, Mike, Nolan and Alisha Griffith of Oakville. Predeceased by all of her siblings. Friends may call at the HAYCOCK-CAVANAGH FUNERAL HOME, 409 Nelson Street in Wallaceburg from 7-9 PM on Friday. A celebration of Arlie’s life will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, September 10 at 11 AM. A time of fellowship & refreshment will follow at the Cavanagh Reception Centre.
