Alice DeCou

DeCou, Alice; Peacefully at Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, Chatham Campus on Thursday, July 28, 2022 Theresa Alice DeCou was born on October 23, 1945 the third child of a family of nine children. Predeceased by her parents Jack and Anne De Cou, sisters Mary Anne Millson, Jean De Cou and brothers Gery and Joe De Cou and great niece Riley De Cou, and good friend Tom Bolton. Survived by brothers Doug (Myrna), Lawrence (Kathy) and Paul De Cou (Margaret); sister Colleen Jones (Joe). Aunt to Jennifer Millson Thompson, Colleen Barnier, Jeff, Alicia, Aimee, Adam DeCou and Yessica Monge, and great aunt to Emily Thompson and Leah Barnier, cousins Linda Panoska and Leslie Weyrick. Alice worked in the grocery business for 50 years beginning in Wallaceburg with Dominion Stores. She transferred to Chatham Dominion and worked as head cashier and bookkeeper. When A&P purchased the store, Alice became a Front-End Specialist training staff at stores throughout Ontario. She continued her duties when Metro took over the grocery stores. She lived for her family and enjoyed family gatherings, often the first one to join in in the fun. Her generosity knew no bounds as she cared for her siblings and spoiled her nieces and nephews. We will miss her dedication, loyalty, and sense of humour. She was loved by all and we will certainly miss her contagious smile. The family thanks the staff at Chatham-Kent Health Alliance for providing great care and compassion in her last days. Family and friends are invited for visitation at the HAYCOCK-CAVANAGH FUNERAL HOME, 409 Nelson Street in Wallaceburg, from 2 – 5 PM on Thursday, August 4. The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at Our Lady Help of Christians Church on Friday, August 5 at 11 AM. Interment in Riverview Cemetery at a later date. Donations in Alice’s memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation in Chatham and the Foundation of the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance may be left at the funeral home 519.627.3231.
